– Messi has reacted to Juve’s departure from the tournament, arguing it shows the quality of teams left in the UCL Lionel Messi has broken his silence following the exit of Juventus from this year’s Champions League in the hands of Ajax Amsterdam.
Juventus suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Dutch side on Tuesday night, April 16, at Allianz Arena to dump the Italian giants out of the competition on a 3-2 goal aggregate.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored a goal in each of the legs, but the two goals were not enough to prevent Juventus from crashing out of the tournament.
Messi, on the other hand produced a magnificent performance to send Manchester United packing as Barcelona sealed a semi final place on s 4-0 goal aggregate. Reacting on Ronaldo’s exit from the UCL, the Argentine talisman insisted that the teams left at this stage are “complicated” to face.
When told that Ronaldo’s Juventus had been knocked out, Messi said that goes to show the quality of teams left in the tournament.
“That tells you everything, any team is complicated, be it Liverpool or Porto, there are those who deserve, the best, and everything is going to be complicated,” the Daily Star quoted Messi. Meanwhile, Ronaldo was bidding to win his fourth Champions League title with Juventus, having won the previous three with Real Madrid.
Earlier, the Portuguese talisman is set to miss Champions League semis for first time since 2009-10.
The last time Ronaldo failed to progress into the semi finals was in the 2009-10 season when Real Madrid were stunned by Ligue 1 side Lyon in the round of 16. But the Portuguese streak of eight consecutive semi finals and three successive trophies came to an end after the young Ajax squad recorded an emphatic 2-1 win at the Allianz Stadium.
