Fatuma’Iron Fist’ Zarika retained her WBC Super bantamweight World Champion title after beating Zambia’s Catherine Phiri on Saturday, March 23, at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre (KICC).
The Kenyan and Zambian fought for the second time in what was the mother of all rematches.
Zarika was looking for the points whilst Phiri was looking for a knockout but Zarika kept coming out of the corner with swings that caught the Zambian off-guard.
Phiri worked hard but did not land most of her blows and only took the fifth round while the rest went mostly Zarika’s way.
Zarika reminded the excited crowd in attendance how she earned her name Iron first by landing heavy Punches down Phiris way, that gained her vital points to stand tall as the WBC Champion.
It was the Kenyan’s third title defence in Nairobi against the 32-year-old Zambian who was bidding to reclaim her WBC belt lost in Mexico and hoping to atone for her first loss to Zarika.
